Vijay Kumar: The future of flying robots

 Vijay presented highly interesting speech concerning drons- first he showed robot that can help in creating hi-res maps by flying all around the place and "scanning" environment. Data is sent to pc that makes 3d model of the location. It's also prefect for boss to see his employers. But it has disadvantages:

-it's big= heavy= power-consuming

-it contains hi- end devices onboard, so it's expensive

What is the resolution? Vijay used smartphone- and app- to have similar results. He also showed his laboratory when he and his team constructed eagle-like drons that can catch "prey", in the similar manner as eagle catches a fish. 

The team also discovered that smaller is better- the bigger thing can be damaged more easily- while in nature, bees can have hundreds of collisions and they are still fine.

What is the wider reason for all these things? Drons can help in "Precision Farming" which is help in developing apple orchard and other food farms- for example in examining whether trees need water or not, or counting number of fruits, or how healthy the tree is by counting number of leafs.
